Charles Darwin’s name is known all over the world – he’s probably one of the first people you’d think of if asked to name a famous British scientist. His theories on evolution and natural selection remain enormously influential more than a century after his death, and he appeared on every £10 note issued by the Bank of England between 2000 and 2018.
